ROB BRODERICK
Irish stand-up comedian who was born in Dublin but who
now lives and works in London. In 2005 he was a finalist in the So You Think
You're Funny competition at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. |
On Friday March 6th a new comedy club had its
launch night. Karl Edrik compered Frank Sanazi, Steve Parry, Rob Broderick,
Sarah-Louise-Young, Ali Cook and Nina Conti. The evening's musical needs were
met by Julian Burdock and his Band 24 Pesos.
In
terms of performance, I really do not know how it could've been better. Don't
take my word for it, though, find one of the 120 people who attended. For
myself, the entire evening was a logistical nightmare; I had no idea how much
work would be involved and had I known, well, I'm not convinced I'd have
decided to push ahead. But, I did and full throttle was applied: BEEP BEEP,
make way, BEEP BEEP, here comes the pimped up comedy night.
Some of the highlights, for me, were presenting my brother, James, and my
friend, Mark, with their Birthday cakes; getting a hug from my Mum and being
told how proud she was of me and seeing so many friends who made the effort to
come down and support me. I was genuinely quite touched.
The room was packed and there was a great atomosphere.
I think that was as much to do with the quality of the audience as it was the
quality of the performers. I've got some really good friends. There were quite
a few other people who helped make that night possible.
Thanks people, you were superb. An additional thanks to
the venue manager Jane, who amongst other things came up with the great idea of
bringing in the outside benches to create a diner experiance in the pool room -
the food was 'off the radar' delicious.
It's now all about March 20th.
